I am georgia Tech student and purchased this tablet for the college work and I love this tablet. I am using this tablet to note down (or even record) all the lectures using microsoft one note software. The combination of tablet capabilities and one note software is awesome.
About the pc : The tablet body is durable and can withstand the rough use. The screen resolution is 1024*768 and you might find it really coarse when you want to surf the Internet and most of the time your website page wont fit into screen. But as far as resolution wrt to tablet is concern, I think this resolution is perfect and gives good feel of paper. The screen is hard and gives exact feel of pen and paper and it is very very responsive to tablet input. Pen just fit right in the hand and I dont have complain about it rather then the material which look too brittle to me.
This tablet has fingerprint reader which is really awesome (but u need to swap ur finger two three times). HP security center is really great too, once u enter the password the security software save it and then you dont need to enter it next time. It is better then saving the password in internet explorer incase other people use ur tablet.
The pc does get a little hot because of it higher end cpu but it is not uncomfortable to me. The noise it makes might be audible in the class with pin drop silence but i usually keep it in my lap which just muffle the sound. The power cord is substandard and the box between the cord does get really hot.
The customer service is exceptional, my power cord box stopped working and they replaced it immediately.

I bought this when I was teaching math online so that I could write math notation rather than having to try to improvise representing a square root and exponents etc. I wound up using it as a primary laptop as well.
This tablet is solidly built with a solid well-made base construction. The keyboard is comfortable to use. Though the keyboard is slightly smaller than a full-sized keyboard, it is still very usable.
The display is beautiful. It swivels easily and changes modes pretty well -- though there is a bit of a lag. One minor annoyance is that if you shut down in portrait mode and then start up in landscape, the screen will not re-orient until after you have logged in. That makes logging in a little awkward unless you go back to portrait mode first.
This system also makes a great ebook reader. Sure -- it isn't as portable as a kindle or Sony reader. However, if you need to carry your laptop and want an electronic reading library -- this spares you having to carry yet another gadget.
Because of the wireless capability, this notebook is also perfect for a netbook.
One of the really great uses for this notebook is that it can double as a
Freehand Systems MusicPad Pro 4.0 All you have to do is go to Freehand's website and download the music viewer and Voila -- you have a MusicPad Pro. Since the dimensions of the HP Tablet TC4400 are essentially the same as the MusicPad, the music that you purchase form the Freehand website is completely compatible. Since you have the tablet capabilities, you have the ability to mark up the music just as you would.
So if you are a musician, this is probably the best bang for your buck -- you can have a laptop that does double duty as the MusicPad and you only have to carry one device and leave the heavy books at home.
The things I'm not wild about:
1. You really need to put the maximum amount of memory in this in order to get reasonable performance -- adding the memory isn't very convenient either since you have to take off the keyboard to access one of the memory bays.
2. Compared to newer systems with faster processors, this system is noticeably slower but still ok.
4. The 40 gig drive is not enough if you have your typical suite of software on there (Microsoft Office etc.) However, you can get a compact 300 gb hard drive for not much more. I store my data (music, sheet music, etc) on the hard drive so I can switch easily between computers and use the hard drive for the software.
5. There is no CD/DVD drive on this. Again, you can get a separate one for it but after awhile, it is kind of ridiculous all the peripherals you need. Fortunately, there are plenty of USB ports.
Over all, though, I'm very happy with this system. It is made with a level of quality that is sadly lacking in newer HP systems. At the risk of showing my age, they don't make them like this anymore. If you need a basic portable netbook-like that has versatility for a wide variety of applications, I highly recommend this system. Grab one while you can...
